Shining Light

2 Peter: 1;19

And so the words of the prophets are made more certain; and it is well for you to give attention to them as to a light shining in a dark place, till the dawn comes and the morning star is seen in your hearts;

Have you ever had the electrical power go out in your area? We have due to all these bad thunderstorms we have been getting. It is not only inconvenient, it can cause some serious issues. Such as air conditioning, or refrigerator/freezer products. But the light, that is what we miss the most. When darkness starts to come, that light is something we really want in our homes.

Have you used a flashlight during these situations? You see how it spreads light out before you to a certain distance so you can see to walk where you are going?

This is what God's word does for us. It brings light into our situtation. It lights the path, and makes our way clearer to go. AMEN, AMEN!

A Christian should be drawn towards light everyday. We shouldn't want to walk in the despair of night, or the darkness of the soul. WE should be drawn to the light so we have peace. So we find our way. So we can be a light to others.

What if no one was a light in this world? What if Christians were suddenly taken out? What kind of light would be left?

So while you are here on this earth, fill yourself with the light of Christ, and let it shine upon all men so they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven. The word of God says we are called from darkness into light. Think about this... you can not be in both.
When you are in the light.. there is no darkness and when you are in the darkness there is no light. We either walk with God and let his light shine through us. Or we trudge along without him, with no light, and seemingly no hope. We really do make a choice everyday whether to walk in His light (word, prayer, strength, hope) or to reject it and try to make it on our own.

We go about our duties, our habits, with our friends, and falter along the way, blindly because we cannot see two minutes ahead, much less a day or two. But God can.

"He has the light."

"Do you?"

Ephesians 5:8

For you at one time were dark, but now are light in the Lord: let your behaviour be that of children of light.

John 3:19-21

And this is the test by which men are judged: the light has come into the world and men have more love for the dark than for the light, because their acts are evil.
The light is hated by everyone whose acts are evil and he does not come to the light for fear that his acts will be seen.
But he whose life is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his acts have been done by the help of God.

Sharon, when you broguht up the idea of the flashlight it made me also think of what the flashlight does or provides. You can only see so far ahead of you in the light. I believe the Lord is like this also. He shines His light on us to guide the way yet we are only able to see so far. We must continue to walk in His light to see farther and farther down our path ONLY as we continue to walk with God in the the light.

thanks for sharing this.

God calls us to be a light in the world. Yet so many try to be a light without letting go of the darkness which leads unbelievers questioning why should I follow.
Thanks for sharing and reminding us to stay in the light and immediately confront the darkness.

Hi Sharon,
I remember my mom used to always say, What ever is done in the dark will soon come to light, as I got older I realized her meaning and the word of God. Nothing is hidden from the Lord, and when we think we are getting away with something eventually it surfaces in the least time we expect. that is why it is so important to let the Lord be the light yjat directs our path each day, so we don't wander off and dwell in the darkness too long. Great post Sharon I was blessed.

Amen, Sharon!

When we take God out of a situation we are in we start worrying and fretting, because everything seems impossible.

But when we pray and put God in the situation, everything is possible, and life seems brighter, literally.
Because He is the Light!

Great post, Sharon!
God Bless,
Amy:)

Amen! This post made me think about a place that I used to work. It was a huge office and the atmosphere was negative and dark. I wasn't always sure that my light was shining in the darkness. Just within these last several weeks the Lord has shown me that I did make a difference and my light was shining. Thanks for this Sharon!

Sharon, I loved this, and what a great reminder. I really liked what Paula said about the light shining just so far. There's the issue of trust and faith. It's very hard to go on, sometimes, when you can't see so far ahead.

Oh, how true are your words! What a comfort it is to see a light when we are in a dark place. And after a long, sleepless night...the light is the promise of a new day. And finding God, after living a life in darkness...is the promise of a new life. He is so good!

Sharon,
I have a prayer request. My youngest daughter and her husband are in a financial crisis right now and need prayer. God has the answer I know. They have been through so much but have stood by their faith and I believe God will reward them.
Thanks,
AliceE.

Sharon,

I saw your comment on Paula's (Sweet Pea) site and when I saw "stinkin' thinkin'" I knew I had found a Joyce Meyer fan! :)
And according to your profile, I was right! ha! :)

I really liked this post and what it has to say. I particularly liked the whole electricity going out thing...that has happened to me too many times to count...and yes, we crave the light, too! God can definitely bring the light into any situation! Great post! Thanks!

Prayers and blessings,
Rebecca
