Worship, Who YOU??

Have you ever gone to the store and purchased a singing bird maybe for yourself or someone else? They all have different sounds and sound so beautiful. I have a red Cardinal, who chirps or sings depends on which way I push the button, I can also set it to sing or chirp By motions. I so Enjoy listening to this, I love the sounds.
But whats sad is what if it just sat there and never sang, what if all it did was sit there and just turn its head, never uttered a tune. I would be so disappointed, I would try to get it to work, but if it doesn't want to it will not.

That's how I see sooooo many people in church just standing there, maybe turning there heads. Nothing coming from there lips, you don't see them singing to there Lord, you see NO worshipping. I don't know if they really understand how important that is. Jesus says in John 4:24, "God is a Spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth."
The purpose of our worship is to glorify, honor, praise, exalt, and please God. Our worship must show our adoration and loyalty to God for His grace in providing us with the way to escape the bondage of sin, so we can have the salvation He so much wants to give us. The nature of the worship God demands is the prostration of our souls before Him in humble and complete submission. James 4:6, 10 tells us, "God resists the proud, but gives GRACE to the humble. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up". Our worship to God is a very humble and reverent action.

Jesus says in John 4:23-24, "But the hour is coming, and now is, when true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth." It doesn’t say we can worship God anyway we want, but we "must worship Him in spirit and in truth". The word "must" makes it absolute. There is no other way we can worship God and be acceptable to Him. The word "must", according to Webster, expresses "an obligation, a requirement, a necessity, a certainty, and something that must be done". When "must" is used it means that it is not optional. Here the word "must" is expressing that in spirit and in truth is the only way to acceptably worship God.

God seeks true worshippers, and He identifies them as those who "worship Him in spirit and in truth". Worshipping God in spirit means that it must be done from the heart. Worshipping God in truth means that it must be done according as God has specified in the Bible. Worshipping God in spirit and in truth is a serious matter which must not be taken lightly. If we have any regard for our own souls, we will want to make sure we are worshipping God in spirit and in truth.

Worship is a time when we pay deep, sincere, awesome respect, love, to the one who created us. Acts 17:24-25 says, "God who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives life, breath, and all things."

Worship should cause us to reflect on the majesty and graciousness of God. God does not have to have our worship, but we must worship Him to please Him. Our singing, praying, studying His word, giving, are designed by God to bring us closer to Him and to cause us to think more like He thinks, thus becoming more like Him. James 4:8tells us to, "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you."

Our worship not only honors and magnifies God, but it is also for our own edification and strength. Worship helps us develop a God-like and Christ-like character. We become like unto those we admire and worship. When we worship God we tend to value what God values and gradually take on the characteristics and qualities of God, but never to His level. As Philippians 2:5 says, "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ." How do we take on the mind of Christ? In Romans 12:2 we read, "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." We renew our mind as we study and meditate on God’s word and worship Him.

When we worship God we develop such traits as forgiveness, tenderness, justice, righteousness, purity, kindness, and love. All of this is preparing us for eternal life in heaven with God and Christ. As we are told in Colossians 3:2 to, "Set your mind on things above, and not on things on the earth."

You know Sunday we were at a church, it was so beautiful, I felt the Holy Spirit when I walked in the door. There were some people who were greeters, I felt it when we hugged and shook hands, It was Great. They had a group of singers on stage singing Worship music, and let me tell you they were absolutely AWESOMEEEEEE! There was one point where they stopped singing to let us sing, and all I heard was ME yes ME, The lead guy was saying come on church sing to your Lord, they would sing a line and then they went silent, I just kept singing. The tears then flowed from my eyes until we left, I was crying because I was hurting for my Lord. Sometimes I wonder if people are not just playing Church.
How do you worship??? You know sometimes when I am worshipping it feels like he is standing in front of me, sometimes I feel as though he is holding my hands. One day, he and I are going to dance together.
Blessings to all

Oh, Sharon, I can tell you are feeling better. Your post is great and I am so lacking in worshiping God. I know I need to do more of it. I do in my thoughts throughout the day but there have been times that I actually cried out to God. I so want to be that person again.
Thank you for that wonderful sermon,
AliceE.

Sharon you are so right when you say that worship comes from the heart...I have been in places where the worship just seem like a loud noise(this is absolutely not a critique on the voices, instruments or type of music)- although the voices and the instruments were excellent...the presence of the Lord was not there...there were voices being raised to God but no ears to hear God respond...there seems to be an urgency to work it up...and yet when we come before Him with open hearts ready to worship Him and receive His love and be yielded to Him...when our hearts connect with His...worshiping the Lord opens us to a deeper connection and abiding with Him. Thank you for this wonderful post.

Amen and amen! I don't understand how anyone can keep from worshiping our Lord! He is so worthy of extravagant worship!

I think those who stand there, untouched, unmoved, are the people who haven't had intimate times with the Father. They've been on the outside looking in -- going through the motions as you said.

Thank you for posting this. (And thank you for your sweet comment on my post.)

Love!

Hi Sharon! Yes worship is from the heart. Wow it surprises me that no one in your church was singing except you. I would have sung with you. I love to sing His praises and worship Him. I also love to Dance before the Lord with all my might. I don't do that in church (not with all my might anyway), but I do when it's me and Him.

God bless you. He sees your worship and adores you.

Oh, Sharon, my heart also brokes for those people. Oh how much is missed by not truly worshipping Jesus. I would be lost without the music. I worship so much through song. The other day, I drove into the garage and a song was on the radio...I just stopped and song my heart out!!

I know I shouldn't but sometimes, I look at the people in front and diagonal to me and see if they are singing. Most of the time it will be a guy not singing. I know my gramma does not and has never sang in church from my knowledge. She laughs it off and says her voice is awful...much like she does when someone tries to snap her pic and she says "oh I look awful."

I believe ONE reason people may not sing is because they can become more concerned with their sound, their appearance, their ability (lack thereof) and not about just singing.

I told my gramma just sing real soft, read the words and say them in your heart. I can't say she's not doing that sometimes but when she's looking at the bulletin...that kind of gives it away. I'm not judging...I just think we have to get past our insecurities and give to Him. It's so NOT about us and our cracking, squeaking voice. It's about giving back a morsel of what He gave to us.

Worship, worship, worship...

Is the church you are attended a smaller one? I can't believe you there was no one else singing at first and they died off every other line.
Love,
Paula

I must tell you dear friend that the picture of the girl dancing with Jesus brought tears to my eyes. Jesus has been challenging me to dance with Him every day. To get out and dance with Him. Whatever I am doing we are tangoing.:). Yes, I agree we need to worship. Worship comes from the heart. May our hearts realize our sinfulness and our deep need for Him, and then may we worship because that's all we can do!!!!!

Love you!
Nicole

Hey Sis,
Yes!!! We must worship him in spirit and in truth. Being on the praise and worship team I can look out and see the faces in front of me. Sometimes I see such saddness in those not singing, and it just touches my heart. I'm so glad the Lord is such a merciful and understanding God.
Great post my sistah!!

Hi Sharon! What an awesome post! I enjoyed every line. I love those moments when I feel that there is just me and God. I must be honest, it doens't always happen in the chruch building. But sometimes I can be at my desk at work or walking down the street singing and suddenly feel like my song of praise or thanksgiving made it's way up to the Almighty and He is "receiving it". I know that may sound a little "weird". I'm not the best with words but I feel that there are times when I am just "drawn" into the worship and I just begin to cast all my cares, fears, doubts, insecurities at His feet and in turn HE fills me with His love, grace, peace and tranquility. I HAVE to worship Him if I want to remain connected to Him. It gives me strength, it gives me joy. It becomes uncontrollable and I long for the moments I can set alone to be in His presence. Ooh, I'm getting excited here. I don't want to turn this comment into a post. (LOL).

I'm glad that you're back in business. Please keep me in prayer.

Blessings!

Blessings sister friend. I suppose some people come to church for many reason. I never really noticed others if they are worshiping or not usually I just close my eyes and focus on me and my relationship with My Father. Although many may worship in spirit and in truth at home more freely. I in my prayer closet which is in my bedroom I dance and sing in the spirit alot. Singing in God's language and dancing as the spirit leads. If someone was present they would be in awe. Maybe even think me crazy. So in church I don't go that deep. There is a need to connect to other Christians and many in Church are dealing with that and then God will be next. Hearts not ready to receive but still believe.
May your spirit of giving and love for Father be an explosing of His will. Love you, rilda *U*

Girl that was awesome.
I have been guilty in the past of offering up worship in order to get to the thrills and the chills.
And there have been other times when I was so wrapped up in my own world that meaningless words just fell from my lips.
I have known the importance of offering Him what to my heart is a lie at the time.
I think there is a lot of this going on in church. It is sad really that only a few Christians experience God inhabiting their praise. And those who would have experienced a little relief when the powers of the air were chased off by their praise...instead leave the service just as heavy hearted as they came.
Thanks for this post.....I will make sure my heart is clean and ready to lift to Him.

Your words make me think of the country song, "I hope you dance...." Do you know the one that I am talking about? Anyway, it's a pretty song, but even more powerful when you put this perspective with it.:)

I pray that you have a lovely weekend, Sharon!

God Bless,
Amy:)

Hey! This has been my "be still" with God weekend. My hubs and oldest son are on a weekend youth retreat with our church and my youngest son spent the night away. It has given me the perfect opportunity to spend some time with God.

Your post fed my personal time so well. I have struggled recently with our church's lack of worship. I have literally thought of jumping up and saying, "Can't you feel it? He is HERE!"

Beautiful, Sharon!
We had an awesome worship service today-and God spoke to my heart through someone else-I was blown away with how on the mark the word to me was...My best times of being in His presence are at home in my own prayer-time in the morning. Often at church I am so distracted-my own fault. But at home I can just be me with Him.
I love ya, gal!

Well if you stand in front of me watchout because I really sing. I see the same thing all around me. So many people are just standing there and not singing. And our chirch puts the words up on a monitor so there should be no excuse. Sing away Sharon.

Sharon,

Thank you for coming by my blog and visiting. So very nice to meet you, my sister. What a glorious post. I love to worship my King! I love to sing His praises and I lift my hands high to Him in praise when the Spirit moves me in church.

When He and I are alone at home...I dance with Him. He is so worthy to be praised! Beautiful post, my friend.

I signed on as a follower and can't wait to come back and see what else I can glean from you!

Blessings to you today!
